ON THE WATER FOR DECEMBER (2009)

ON THE WATER FOR DECEMBER     ( 2009 )

Hello Folks >< Can you believe this Weather ??    A little bit ago Mary & I were out on our Front Deck looking at the Ocean, when we saw an Eagle soaring out over the Light House >>> What a Great Place to Live !!!        I guess I better get back to my writing task >>>>>>>>>

Lot’s of Interesting Stuff in the Tackle Box this Month >><< Can you believe our 1st BIG WINTER STORM, with 90 MPH Winds, actually made the Weather Channel & they even talked about the Water Spout & Tornado that visited damage on us at Roads End in Lincoln City. Talking about Nasty Stuff >< What’s the World Coming Too > !!! < When we are hearing about the damage being done by Gill Netters on the Trinity River, Cattle Rustlers & Elk Poachers …… These kinds of things get my Bowels in an Up Roar !~!~!  Seems like it’s time to >< “Speak Softly, but Carry a BIG STICK” !~!~!    On a bit of a Sad Note >< Did you hear about the 98 year Old F/V Helen McCall >< Yep, the Old Girl just got tired & went down while tied up at Port Dock 5.  To add Insult to Injury >< The Skipper fished Salmon with the Boat for 39 years & when she went down so did his career as a Salmon Fisherman. So much for Life Being Fair !!!!   How’ bout an unusual Christmas Gift >< This is a Hum Dinger, it’s called a “Fish Friendly Car Wash Kit” >< This Bad Boy is intended for use by Groups who Stage Car Wash Fund Raisers >< The idea is that this Kit directs the Nasty Water into the sewer system & not out into surface run off …. This Gift might not be for everybody !!!  Here’s some Good News for all of you “Snowy Plover” fans … These lovely little shore birds were having a very tough time, but they seem to be making a Very Good Comeback, thanks to significant habitat improvements done by a lot of shore volunteers.  Some more Good News >< The Newport Volunteer Fire Department will be getting a Brand Spanking New Aerial Rescue Truck >< This Bad Boy will replace their existing 32 year old truck. Not sure how that information relates to the FC, but if your house catches on Fire it could Become Germane !!!  P>S>> Don’t try to do a Road Trip up to Mary’s Peak… US Forest Service just closed the access road for winter. It’s a lovely place & we’ll try to stage a FC Road Trip/Picnic up there next year. How’ bout an Att’a Boy for Brother Mike Larson >< He got his PIC in the News Times recently for providing free “Pop Up” gallery space, which makes it possible for our Local Artist to display their work. Let’s close out the TB with some Really Good News regarding our Winter Crabbing Season >< The Fishermen & the Processors have settled on Opening Day Catch Price & If the Weather Holds, as it’s been, this could be a Safe & Profitable Season for All Parties >>>>> Let’s Lurch into some November Highlights >>>>>

Lot’s of NOVEMBER activity. We got into Day Light Saving Time & Thanks to a lot of Hard Work, by a Great Bunch Folks, we got Schooner Trap Road Open & the Trap Fully Operational  (On Time & Under Budget !!)  Things were going along beautifully, we were delighted to Welcome LORI LEMONS as a New Club Member & even the Ducks & Beavers were hanging in there >><< Then It Happened >>>> Our Dear Friend Casey Deckard was involved in a Very Violent Automobile Accident >< It was Touch & Go for a couple of days. I know our Angel List Works because Casey & I are examples of what your Positive Prayers & Thoughts can accomplish >< Casey is now Home with his family & I can Walk Upright again >< I have talked with Casey & We are most appreciative of what you all have done for us & our families.     THANK YOU ALL

(Please keep Kimberly Andrews & Lou Reed on your List .. Thanks)

*** With Casey Out of the Loop we have been very active in helping Derek Wilson, of ODFW, with the Winter Fish Trap Operations. Special Thanks to all Trap Team Captains (Including Team Lone Wolf >> aka Mike Samples) & all Trappers. We even have 3 men (Wayde Dudley, Frank Stout & Roger Wilson) helping Derek by actually Driving the Big Tanker Truck >< Remember Guys >> Shiny Side Up & the Dirty Side Down !!!

***  Did I Mention >??< We now have several “Ladies Of the Trap” … Yep, & they are >> Barb Dudley >< Linda Reed >< Ellie LeMaster >< Ginger Dale & Candy Garrison !!!       Onward >>>>>>

*** We have elected our 2010 FC Officers & We welcome Larry Dale as our New Operations Officer. We were also pleased to recognize BUD ROARK as the recipient of our 2009 Joe Longo Award, which will be formally presented to Bud in December. Of course, as I write this our 2009 Salmon Derby is drawing to a Close & it’s looking like Kevin McCarthy’s 35# / 42in Chinook may be this years Winning Fish. Stay Tuned for who will be the Keeper of our Stuffed Salmon for the Smallest Fish of 2009 >< Wayde Dudley has a surprise in store for us, as to how this will be resolved between Bill Furgason & Larry Dale, both guys caught a 6# Fish !!!  Allow me to also Mention & Thank Roger Wilson for the Beautiful Myrtle Wood Gavel he recently presented to the Club. It is being engraved & we will Recognize Roger, for his Craftsman Ship & Generosity, at our December Christmas Gathering.     That’s our queue to Jump into December >>>

DECEMBER is always a Reflective Month for me, in as much as the Slower Natural Winter Cycle Begins & we bring Another Year to a Close. We start off the Month by celebrating a New Breakfast Venue at Szabo’s Restaurant. We will continue to meet there for January & February. Then we have our Annual Civil War Football Rivalry between the Ducks & Beavers >< This year the stakes are Very High >< A Ticket to the Rose Bowl rides on the outcome of this game >< May the Best Team Win !!!    As always >< We will look forward to seeing you at our Annual Christmas Gathering on the 17th of December. We will have the pleasure of Michele Longo Eder’s company & she will play significant part in Honoring BUD ROARK as the recipient of our 2009 Joe Longo Award. This has been a Very Good Year for our LVH Fishing Club & we are very proud of all that we have accomplished over our 5 Years as a Club

All in All we have a lot to be Thankful for as this Year draws to a close >< Friends, Family & our Health >< I Am Truly Blessed ++ Mary & I enjoyed having 2 of our Sons for Thanksgiving & we look forward to having another with us for Christmas. From our Home to Yours >< We sincerely Wish You & Yours the Very Best for the Holiday Season & The New Year >>>>>>>        (Sorry, I can’t resist >> GO DUCKS !!)
