ON THE WATER FOR MARCH (Beware of the Ides of March)
According to Jeff Foxworthy, "the State Flower" of the Pacific Northwest is MILDEW !!!
Let's put our waders on & see if his idea will hold water.no pun intended !!!
Remember last month, I ask you who the SURVEYOR was ?? It is none other than Wayde Dudley. Yes.you say, he is also the guy that has been "Doing Good & Avoiding Evil.Mostly" as the President of our LVH Social Club. We are also very proud to claim him as a member, in good standing, of our Fishing Club. The next time you see Wayde, let him know what a fine job he is doing for our community & ask him about how he got to be The Surveyor. Let me take a second & Thank You All for your Good Thoughts relating to my Eye Lid Surgery. They must have done some good, because I got through it with both eyes open !! Maybe we could try this again for Pam Hudson, she has had some recent back surgery & could use some of our "Good Thoughts." Now..lets wade into the stream & see how much MILDEW got collected on our Fishing Club in February:
FEBRUARY started off with a fun & informative "Knotty" F.C. Breakfast that featured Butch Minich showing us some better ways to tie knots. Then we had 2 very fun & successful Fishing Events: 1) Steelhead on the Siletz..Wrench Hudson & Ducks Stout came up BIG with each catching a beautiful Steely. 2) Trout Tune Up on Big Creek was not a high fish catch, but it was great fun & although Ducks Stout caught a Bow from the bank, our Guests, The Central Coast Fly Fishers, made the day, using Fly Rods which resulted in Alan Canfield & Wally Flanagan picking up 2 really nice Bows. There was a lot of great Fish Trap Action on Schooner Creek, Palmer Creek & the Siletz River. You really ought to get involved in this either as a trapper or a ride along..it's a Blast !!! The Creek Meister Dinsmoor, conducted another successful Litter Patrol on Big Creek, with 15 Bag Stations now in place. Recently, we learned from Larry Henson, how proud he was to hear Scott Meyer, the Water Plant Supervisor, mention in the City Council Meeting the dramatic positive impact our Litter Patrols have had on the Big Creek Reservoir System. This reflects positively on each of you who wear your LVH Fishing Club Caps around Newport. I should also mention, that First Lady Dudley has written an article regarding our Big Creek Activities & the SOLV Organization has informed us they will publish it, as a part of their forth coming Magazine. Well Done First Lady !!! In addition, Barb & Teckron Thomas have successfully got us online with a new Member Service..It's called..FISH D BAY. It provides you all with an online LVH Web "Sale/Want Ad" Page. If you have something you would like to have or sell just send your information (Pix are welcome) to fishdbay@gmail.com & we will post it online for you. This service is free & available to all Club Members & it works !!! Did I mention. Our visit to the Oyster Farm..Well.we had 22 Members brave the nasty weather & we had a Big Time. I think I told you I never met an Oyster I liked.so I gave my proxy to Big Fish Hill & if you look at the Pix on THE WALL you can see him enjoying (yuck) my Oyster !!! You will be seeing some New Member Faces at our meetings..MIKE ROSIGA, MAC ANDREW & RHONDA HARMEN..Please say Hello to them & make them feel Welcome to the fold. By the way, we are rapidly approaching 60 members.Ducks Stout, says keep'em coming Hook, I'll just order some more Ball Caps !!! It would appear, that we have not collected to much MILDEW on our Ball Caps for February...Let's look ahead.....
MARCH begins with a fun social Breakfast Meeting..I may actually be able to eat this time !!! This will be followed, on 3 March, by the Beach Meister holding a Beverly Beach Patrol. Then on 9 March, it's Crabbing on Yaquina Bay.Wrench Hudson will have more to say on that & No.he will not divulge his "Cosmic Secret Spots"..You have to be there to find them out. Watch out for 11 March..SPRING AHEAD.FALL BACK DAY !!! Our General Membership Meeting, on 15 March, will be very informative. We will have the pleasure of a Professional River Guide.Ryan Miner.speaking to us about..You guessed it..Crabbing & Clamming. Ryan is a great guy & he will also entertain any good old fishing question you may have. So don't miss this meeting. All the while these activities are going on we will continue with Fish Trap Servicing...I cannot encourage you strongly enough to catch a bit of this action before the season ends..Just contact Big Fish Hill and/or Sparky Furgason, they will be happy to fit you into their Trapping Schedules. Not to much MILDEW here for March !!!
IN CLOSING...I believe the thing that makes us MILDEW PROOF can be found in our Club's Ethos Statement. "This Club is intended to be a friendly environment which brings together Men & Women who enjoy the sport of fishing in all its forms." It further states, "All members bring value to the Club and are encouraged to be involved and share their experience and skills with other members." Yes.Our Club is growing, but as long as we stay true to our Ethos Statement & Enjoy the Camaraderie that started the Club we will be just fine. I for one, am very proud to stand with You All as my friends, neighbors & Club Members.
Let me leave you with this thought..(I got this from my good friend Sam Wilcox)..."Sometimes, I just sits and thinks & Sometimes, I just sits."
Well..That's the top of the news as it looks from here..Hope to see You on the Water !!! THE HOOK
