ON THE WATER:
Looks like another April has passed under the bridge of life…Wet, Windy & Cold !! All in all it was a good month for the Club. We redefined ourselves, welcomed many of our Snow Birds back and gathered several new members. It is noteworthy, that you all have been so receptive to inviting guests, of both genders, to our Club Events.
Dean Fleck of Englund Marine did us right by hooking us up with a senior Boat Captain, Mike Pettis. Mike exposed us to the various types of boats that comprise the Commercial Fishing Fleet of Newport. We had a wonderful time and Shutter Bug took some great pictures. Don’t miss the one of me coming out of my office on pier 5 !! It was suggested that we make this an annual event, let us know what you think of this idea.
May has all the makings of a fun month. Better weather, a Club Breakfast, a guest biologist from NOAA plus Trout Season opens on the 27th thru 31 October. We also want to get started with our Big Creek Litter Patrol (Big Fish will have more on this on our Web Site) and we will look to Sparky for some guidance on our Club Ball Caps. I look forward to a week of Fly Fishing on the Metolius River and Big Fish has a fun family expedition planned. We’ll let you know how these turn out. Of course we’ll rely on Bernie to keep track of the stocking truck and we’ll look to Dave for the Power Bait color of the month!
You guys have been great about sharing your fishing experiences and making new members and guests feel welcome. However, I would like to see us all do a little more in the areas of encouraging members to attend the meetings/events, gathering new members and generating new ideas that we can pursue to make the Club a fun experience for all. If we all do just a little bit it multiplies into a Club we all can take pride in.
In closing, I’ll leave you with this thought….If gas prices get any higher we may want to raise the LVH Pond Stocking Idea again !!!
Well that’s the top of the news as it looks from here. Hope to see you on the water !!
