ON THE WATER FOR JUNE               (2007)

 

Hello Pard….Did you see in the “View from the Hill” that BIG FISH HILL was anointed by FIRST LADY DUDLEY, in her well written column, as the VOL of the Month. Now there’s a fellow you can rely on & he’s not a half bad Fisherman. Best of all I consider him my friend. I have told you before, a man is lucky if he can count his friends on one hand & in my case “That’s a Big Deal” & I am very Lucky !!

 

Here it is the last day of MAY & I have been suffering from Writers Block…….I was beginning to wonder if there was something like METAMUCIL to help get me “Moving” with My Problem…….When lo & behold 3 wonderful things popped into my head:

 

The First was the Community Service Award the Club was honored to receive from the Lincoln County School District. What a nice reflection this was on Brian Hudson (Our Lead Instructor) & his Merry Band of ODFW Instructors. It sure puts our Club in a positive light in our community & best of all we will soon be graduating some Young Responsible Anglers to fish the waters of our fine State.

 

The Second was the successful involvement we had with the fine folks at First Baptist Church of Waldport, our Brothers of the Central Coast Fly Fishers, ODFW & the USFS. Of course I am talking about the Children’s Fishing Derby at Eckman Lake. There is no way I can tell you what it’s like to see a small child catch his or her 1^st FISH…...Suffice to say…….It’s a Kick in the Pants !!!!

 

The Third was the rewarding letter we received from a young lady (Spc Jennifer Roux) serving with the 1 CAV in Iraq. She took the time to let us know how much the Fishing Gear, we sent over to them, meant to make our soldiers feel ( at least for a little while ) as if they were fishing on the bank of some favorite river or creek in their Home Town.

 

I will spare you of the usual litany of wonderful & fun things the Club has been involved with in May, but I cannot let the moment pass without  Welcoming our 2 Newest Members……Larry & Ginger Dale. I would also like to THANK ALL of YOU who helped to make our 2^nd Time Around Sale Event such a financially rewarding experience for the Club. Perhaps this event will sustain us financially each year without “Passing the Hat” to supplement the Coffee Fund. Special Thanks to Wayde & Barb for Spear Heading the Sale & Frank for doing such a fine job managing the Coffee Fund. Frank tells me we have 466 Bucks in the Coffee Pot !! We should also mention the GOOD STUFF Electric Bill has been doing for our Club & First Lady for all of her Super PAO Work on THE WALL…Check out the super cool News Times Article about our Intrepid Schooner Creek Fish Trappers….Big Fish continues his recruiting for our ongoing Trapper Support of the Siletz Fish Trap.   

 

Have you seen the JUNE MEETING & EVENT SCHEDULE ???  A copy of which is posted on THE WALL……As you will see, it’s going to be a very busy month. Of particular note, is the sad reality that 7 June will be the last time we will have the pleasure of Jack & Ginny Scherer’s company in our LVH Community & at our Fishing Club Meetings. They will always be with us in Spirit & we sincerely wish them a long & happy future in their New Digs……Beware New Folks…….I’ll put money on Jack’s starting a New Fishing Club in their community !!!!

 

Keep a sharp eye out for BLASTS that provide specific information relating to our many June Club Events & Fishing Expeditions planned by GENERAL HUDSON.

 

IN CLOSING, I would like to have you reflect, with me, on YOUR involvement with our various Club Activities. What makes our Club so successful is>>>YOU<<<What I am beginning to see is that a relatively small “Core of Members” seem to be carrying the LOAD of the Clubs Activities & I will be the 1^st to applaud their invaluable efforts.     HOWEVER……..

 

My Grand Mother used to say, “Many Hands Make Light Work”…..Please reflect on how much time YOU have recently invested in YOUR Fishing Clubs Many Endeavors….We all can contribute within our Own Individual Capabilities…. Aside from increasing YOUR Enjoyment……This is the “stuff” of a healthy functioning organization & that ultimately will bring value to ALL of Our Club Members.
