Hello to All of my LVH FC Friends >< Here we are again at the beginning of The Christmas Season & Another New Year !!! Can you believe how quickly they seem to come around ??? >< I am reminded of the saying, that “The Hurry’er I am >< The Behind’er I get” >< This seems to fit my perspective on how quickly this last year has gone by >>> Enough of this Maudlin Stuff !~!~! Let’s Get-R-Done for 2K10 ……..
When I dumped out the 2K10 Tackle Box >< I found a bunch of unrelated stuff …… A couple of sad issues >><< 2 Young Folks recently lost their lives by being swept off the South Jetty >< ODFW is reporting Sea Lions dying from a mysterious bacteria that can be transferred to our pet dogs >< There are 3 proposed (Cape Falcon, Cascade Head, Cape Perpetua) Fishing-free Marine Zones currently under consideration. This is a very sensitive issue >> If you have concerns (For/Against) >> Please make your concerns known to ODFW >< US Postal Service reports an $8.5 Billion loss for this Fiscal Year & It will run out of Bucks for 2K11 >> Holy Toledo, if we want to continue to receive our Fishing Mags, we may need to revive The Old Pony Express Concept !?!? It gets worse >< How would like to have been 1 of the 450 passengers on the Carnival Cruise Ship that went “Dead In The Water” for 3 days & Ultimately had to be towed into LA >< Now, we are hearing about a significant upswing in Mule Deer Poaching .. Yep ODFW reports Poaching is UP & the Sale of Hunting Licenses is Down >> A sign of the Times !?!?? Let’s close on a brighter note >>
We received a great Hunting Report from Brother Tom Simpson >&< 1 December Marks the Opening of our Commercial Crab Season … Now begins the haggling over Price per Pound >> Last year it was $1.75 for the first 3 days >><< Current discussions are running anywhere from $1.50 to $2.15 >> Stay Tuned !!! >< Another bright spot, is the recent purchase of a strip of salt marsh land that straddles Drift Creek & the North Channel of the Alsea River. This is a prime habitat for salmon propagation >> Att’a Boys to the Western River Conservancy who will be conveying this valuable salmon habitat to the USFS >< On ward & Up ward >>
Let’s take a quick look back at NOVEMBER >><< The month started off with sadness >> We lost 2 of our Very Dear Friends > Tami Wagner & Jack Scherer >> May they Rest in Piece & again our Condolences to their Families >< Moving on >> I am pleased to report, that at our breakfast meeting, the membership, unanimously supported the nomination of Casey Deckard as our 2K10 Joe Longo Award Winner >&< It appears as though we all got thru the Daylight Savings Time Changes & Veterans Day >> How’ bout them BLUES BROTHERS !~!~! Yep, The W2’s (Wayne Hill & Wayde Dudley) made an Academy Award Appearance, representing the Newport Police Volunteers, in the Albany Veterans Day Parade >> They were a really Big Hit & Perhaps, if we encourage them a bit >> They may take this Fun Idea “On The Road” at subsequent parades !!!! >< We had a very positive GM Meeting >> Congratulations to all of the Newly Elected FC Board Members. This is a wonderful group of folks who will take the Club into 2K11 & Beyond…. We concluded this fun meeting with our 1st Show & Share Event …This consisted of our various members Showing & Explaining their interesting & varied Collectibles, Hobbies, Crafts & Avocations >>> Check out the Terrific Photo Shoot done by Wayde Dudley & displayed by Barb, on the LVH FC WALL >< I sincerely hope you all are fully recovered from your “Tryptophan Coma” induced by our over indulgence at the Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner >>>>> (Try to remember how you felt >< When it comes time to tuck into the Christmas Dinner Table !!)

May the Best Team Win >>> Hold the 11th of December Open for our 4th Quarter Beverly Beach Patrol >&< This may be your last chance to unseat Kevin McCarthy as the Lead Dog in the final days of the 2K10 LVH FC Salmon Derby (Derby Ends Midnight on the 15th) >><< Then we wrap up the year with our Annual Christmas Gathering & Presentation of the Joe Longo Award >>> We are delighted to recognize Casey Deckard as our 2K10 Winner. We are doubly pleased that Casey will be joined by his lovely wife Kelly & their 2 children, Kaiden & MaKennah >>>>>
That brings us to the 25th of December >> Christmas Day >> I sincerely hope Your Holiday Season will be Safe, Full & Rich in the Blessings of Family & Friends >>> Please be kind to one another, as you go into the New Year >>>
As you know, I will stand down at the end of this year as the President of your LVH Fishing Club. Allow me to Thank Each & Everyone of You for affording me that Honor & Privilege, over these last 5 years >< This will be my Last On The Water Column >< That said, your FC Board has extended, to me, the invitation to act as the Unofficial FC Chronicler >< This would entail, occasionally writing about my Various Travels, FC Activities & Other Eclectic Items of possible interest to Our Fishing Club Membership.
